Take a Drive: Getting Out with Home Care Services in Hermitage PA!

It’s the beginning of the year and while you may be looking forward to the summer months already, there’s still a lot of living to be done right here, right now.  When you have a loved one who is receiving any type of home care services, you may be struggling to figure out what to do with them.  Sometimes, a simple family movie night could be just what the doctor ordered (that would be ‘Doctor Mom, or ‘Doctor Dad,’ and not an actual doctor).  You could also enjoy game night with the grandchildren, and that could help to bring your entire family closer together.Home Care Services Hermitage PA

What about something else?  What about trying something different?  You want to get your loved one out of the house, and if you want a simple and easy thing to do that could lead you to places that you’d never seen before, then why not consider taking a drive.  You could easily include the in home care provider in your plans as well, if he or she is anxious to get out and get some fresh air.

A few tips for taking a drive to remember.

  1. Don’t go out in the bitter cold.  If you’re planning on taking your elderly loved one out for a drive, even if you’re not planning on stopping anywhere to get out and look around during the winter, it’s important that you pay attention to the temperature.  Think about the worst-case scenario, which would be breaking down along a desolate road that is rarely traveled.  That wouldn’t be too much fun, would it?  In the bitter cold, it could be deadly, so make your plans for a day that is at least no lower than freezing (32°F).
  2. Put away your GPS.  Even if you don’t know the area well, shut off your GPS, get off the beaten path, and just drive.  Take turns down roads you know nothing about and see where they lead.  You won’t get lost if you’re able to read a map or use a GPS navigation computer.  However, when you start driving down roads that you don’t know or have never been on before, you’re bound to discover interesting places that you never knew existed before.
  3. Ask your elderly loved one if there’s anywhere they’ve always wanted to visit, but hadn’t done yet.  You may be surprised to learn that there are a few points on the map (within a fair drive) that they wouldn’t mind seeing. Y our entire family could end up experiencing something special!

This year, try something different for someone relying on home care services. Take a drive, and expect the unexpected!
